Monarch Context™
An Add-in for Excel for Spreadsheet Compliance, Auditing and Report Navigation
Monarch Context allows you to compare the data in your Excel spreadsheet with the corresponding information in the embedded source report. You may also use Monarch Context to explore, copy and print the source report from within Excel.
Enable Data Lineage for Excel
The reporting ills of organizations centering on what is often called "Spreadsheet Hell" or "Spreadmarts" are legendary. Managers, auditors and compliance personnel all need easier, better ways to answer the common questions around spreadsheets: Where does the data come from? Is the data accurate? Has it been tampered with? Datawatch provides a sensible new solution to this problem of data lineage.
With new Monarch V10.5, you have the ability to embed a full-fidelity XML representation of the original source report within any Excel file (XLSX/XLSM) that you create from that report. In other words, the source data for the Excel file now travels with the Excel file — making it easy to compare and reconcile the spreadsheet and source.
In order for Excel users to view the underlying report that has been embedded by Monarch in an Excel file and to be able to drill from the Excel data to the report data, the FREE Monarch Context Add-in for Excel is required.
Check the Accuracy of Your Excel Data
Once you download and install the Monarch Context Excel Add-in, a menu tab will appear at the top of your Excel spreadsheet. Click on the tab named "Monarch" and you will have three main options:
- Display Source: This will invoke the Report View and sync from the selected row in your Excel spreadsheet to the corresponding line in the underlying report data
- Report List: This shows a list of all the reports included in the Excel file. Selecting a report will open it, invoking the Report View
- Remove Reports: This will remove any reports from the Excel file
Explore Your Report from Excel
When invoked either by choosing the Display Source or Report List menu items, the Report View appears.
The Report View provides a full-fidelity view of the original report and gives you the ability to easily navigate within the report (or reports), find information, copy and paste, print, or save the report or a section of the report as a separate file.
